For someone like me, who enjoys listening to other people's stories and is curious about how others live, this diary-style record always captures my attention.

While it doesn't contain an exceptionally grand story or a moving narrative, the fact that you can read a story akin to being abducted to an alien island (in today's terms) is enough to justify the book's value.

One can indirectly experience the bewilderment, despair, and astonishment that this Hamel felt at the time.

This man left his name in history through this book, but he lost his own life.
